Thought for the Day on KIPI

This is Fr. Kurt of CREM, and let me leave you with this thought for the day.

Bishop Steven Charleston, retired Episcopal Bishop and an elder in the Chocktaw nation wrote this two days ago…

A spiritual reality check: while we are distracted by the slow unfolding of our national election, the virus continues to rage, bringing sorrow to more families. It is not concerned by bruised political egos, but looks for more innocent lives to take. Where I live the governor still refuses to ask everyone to wear a mask, so the danger of infection is just that much greater. I see other places where the first hints of a hard winter under the pandemic are apparent. Therefore, we need to continue our prayers for healing and protection for as many people as possible. We need to defend the most vulnerable. We need to comfort the bereaved. Our work as spiritual medics continues and the demands on us may increase in the weeks ahead. I wish I could say our work is done, but it may be just beginning. That is our reality. Let us face it with the confidence of faith, the courage of hope, and the conviction that our efforts save lives. (Steven Charleston)

Prayer for Courage (Corrymeela Community)

Courage comes from the heart
and we are always welcomed by God,
the chante’ [Lakota for heart] of all being.

We bear witness to our faith,
knowing that we are called
to live lives of courage,
love and reconciliation
in the ordinary and extraordinary
moments of each day.

We bear witness, too, to our failures
and our complicity in the fractures of our world.

May we be courageous today.
May we learn today.
May we love today.
Amen.
